A Tale of the Study is one of the Side Quests in NieR Replicant. Side quests are optional tasks or quests usually requested by NPCs that players can choose to complete in order to obtain rewards. Some quests rewards are required for certain endings.
Investigate a Shade that has appeared in the study.
You annihilated the Shade. That should keep the place safe for a while.

A Tale of the Study Walkthrough
- Speak to Sebastian
He will inform Emil of the Shade sitting in the study. NieR will ask the butler if he wants him to go kill it, but the butler says it may not be necessary since the Shade doesn't seem to be causing any trouble.
NieR will insist the Shade must be killed.
- Head to the study and locate the Shade
The Shade appears to be browsing the books on the shelves and has no interest in attacking.
The Shade will have a magic defense barrier, but will not fight back even when attacked.
- Kill the Shade
- Report back to Sebastian for the quest to end
