Shadows of the Desert is one of the Side Quests in NieR Replicant. Side quests are optional tasks or quests usually requested by NPCs that players can choose to complete in order to obtain rewards. Some quests rewards are required for certain endings.
You defeated the woman, who was disguised as one of the Masked People. Had she been a Shade this whole time?
All Facade Quests can only be started after NieR's first trip to Facade in the main storyline. The quests will appear after finishing the Loyal Cerberus questline and if you have completed The Missing Girl in Act I

Shadows of the Desert Walkthrough
This quest can be obtained if you have completed The Missing Girl in Act I, and after you defeat the wolves to obtain Loyal Cerberus. Travel to the desert and you will find a girl near a boat. Talk to her and she will say she is tracking wolves.
Travel back and forth until she spawns closer to town, she will say she is tracking shades.
Travel around again and she will spawn just outside Facade, and Weiss will claim she is a shade.
You will be attacked by several flying shades and a big shade.
Defeat them all and obtain 30000 gold from the King.
