Learning a Trade is one of the Side Quests in NieR Replicant. Side quests are optional tasks or quests usually requested by NPCs that players can choose to complete in order to obtain rewards. Some quests rewards are required for certain endings. 

 

A man traveling on a ship in Seafront wants to make a medication that will prevent seasickness. Buy him a mandrake leaf from the strange-thing store in Facade.

You obtained the mandrake leaf. The shopkeeper at the strange-thing store sure acted funny when you asked for it...

Your client is still working on his sickness cure. Bring him some toad oil from Two Brothers Weaponry in the Junk Heap

With a nudge and a wink, the younger brother sold you some toad oil.

The client wound up going into medicine business

  • Speak to the Resident on one of the docked boats at the Seafront dock

The same resident from The New Merchant in Town now wants to create a medication that will prevent seasickness 

 

Facade

 

Strange-Thing Shopkeeper: "A mandrake leaf? Oh ho! I never would have expected such a request from you! No worries, no worries! We're all men here after all, yes?"

You obtained the mandrake leaf. The shopkeeper at the strange-thing store sure acted funny when you asked for it...

 The Resident will reward NieR for his efforts and the leaf, but the next morning he will admit it didn't cure his seasickness. 

 

Resident: " I thought it would help my seasickness, but instead I made a....Well, let's just call it an eneergizer, eh? 
...And my wife is just thrilled! Grawwwl!"
Nier: " I didn't need to know any of that" 

 

The resident wants to try again. He asks for toad oil from the Junk Heep.

 

Junk Heap

 ( If The Two Brothers Weaponry is unavailable,  return to the quest after finishing the second mission of the main story )

Your client is still working on his seasickness cure. Bring him some toad oil from Two Brothers Weaponry at the Junk Heap.

With a nudge and a wink, the younger brother sold you some toad oil.

 

Seafront

  • Return the toad oil to the client and this will end the quest 

The client wound up going into the medicine business.

  • The new merchant needed some cargo to fulfill his dreams of becoming a merchant. He pays NieR to help him with his stock and cargo
  • Unfortunately after his first expedition, he discovered that he gets seasick and was forced to give up his dreams
  • This sparks the idea of this quest to try to discover a cure for seasickness
