Research Project is one of the Side Quests in NieR Replicant. Side quests are optional tasks or quests usually requested by NPCs that players can choose to complete in order to obtain rewards. Some quests rewards are required for certain endings.
The butler wants you to explore the manor's underground facility in seach of a way to restore Emil's body to normal. A clue apparently awaits in the second basement floor.
You've obtained the address of a former researcher, whose residence is located above the entrance to Seafront
You found a mysterious letter in the ex-researcher's house. Show it to the butler.
The mysterious letter was addressed to Emil.
Emil seemed happy to see it.

Explore the rooms underneath the Manor to try to find a way to restore Emil's body to normal.
Research Project Walkthrough
A Tale of the Study must be completed first before this quest can be activated.
- Speak to the butler in Emil's Manor
The butler wants you to explore the manor's Underground Laboratory in search of a way to restore Emil's body to normal. A clue apparently awaits on the second basement floor.
- Examine the statue in the back courtyard to reopen the archival rooms
- Head to the archival rooms below the Manor and make your way to the second basement floor
- Investigate the desk in the third large room, enter the smaller room
You've obtained the address of a former researcher, whose residence is located above the entrance to Seafront.
Seafront
- investigate the ex researchers house in Seafront
- The house will be left at Seafront. Left three times and up the stairs and there will be a gate with a quest indicator.
- Examine the gate to speak with the resident
You found a mysterious letter in the ex researchers house. Show it to the butler.
- Return to Emil's Manor and show your findings to the butler.
The mysterious letter was addressed to Emil by a woman who acted as his mother. It sounds like an apology for everything that's happened
Emil seemed happy to see it. He says he does not care about his body because instead, the letter helped him recover the memory of his mother.
