Kainé (Boss) is an NPC that appears as a Boss in NieR Replicant.  She initiates a few boss fight sequences with NieR throughout the game as her self and as a Shade. 

 

Kainé (Boss) Location

• The first fight sequence occurs where she resides at the Deserted tent between The Aerie and the Northern Plains. 
• The second fight sequence occurs at the Lost Shrine after NieR's encounter with Gretel
• The third fight sequence only occurs in Ending D and Ending E. She will initiate another boss fight after the defeat of the Shadowlord at the Shadowlords Castle.

 

Kainé (Boss) Information

Most of Kainé's boss fight sequences are initiated when she cannot control the Shade within her and it starts to relapse.  Tyrann, the Shade in Kainé is also unable to stop it. When Gestalts go out of control, they lose their minds. Tyrann warns her that both his memory and hers will be overwritten. 

Before she is completely taken over, she warns NieR to run or kill her before she hurts him. When her Shade takes over, Tyrann will be able to communicate with NieR himself. 

 

Kainé (Boss) Encounters

The first fight sequence occurs when NieR first meets Kainé and she tries to ward him off with a boss fight sequence until it is interrupted by another giant Shade, Hook. 

The second encounter where NieR fights Kainé occurs after the battle with Gretel at the Lost Shrine. Her Shade form takes over when she is impaled by a spear. Completing the sequence will reveal the first Key Fragment, The Guardian Stone Key Fragment. 

The third encounter occurs in the other endings during the third playthrough when the Shadowlord is defeated and her Shade form once again takes over. Two separated endings will follow, NieR will be given the decision to save her life and sacrifice his own or end hers. NieR must first complete the boss fight sequence until the HP bar is depleted and Kainé becomes incapacitated. Tyann will then suggest plunging his sword into her chest since this is what she would want, to have freedom from life and burden. 

NieR asks what other options he asks and Tyrann informs him that NieR must trade his existence for hers so that she can continue as a human again. 

 

Ending C - Sacrificing Kainé

• Choosing "End Kainé's life and free her from her burden" will give you Ending C
• NieR will bid her goodbye with a kiss and she will thank him. 

 

Ending D - Sacrificing NieR 

• Choosing "Sacrifice your own existence to make Kainé human again." will give you Ending D
• NieR will disappear and cease to exist, and neither Yonah, Kainé, or anyone will remember or retain any memory of who NieR is. Any sign of NieR's existence will be erased and this will also clear this games saved data. 
• In this ending, Yonah sees Kainé and thanks her for saving her life. Kainé will be unexplainably crying and she will say it's as if she found something special. 

 

Kainé (Boss) Attack Strategy

 

Lost Shrine

• Her Shade form leaps quickly with agility. She has the ability to project magic orbs as she climbs walls. She also has quick melee attacks.
• NieR will mainly have to use his magic attacks to strike her down. Magic attacks against her will also temporarily prevent her from being able to attack back. 
• When she is struck from the walls, she is stunned for a few seconds and opens the opportunity to attack 
• Before the HP bar is fully depleted the Boss sequence will end with an Attack Gauge

Shadowlord's Castle

• Shade Kainé will have a string of energy with two anchor points that each propel waves of magic orbs. These must be blocked if evading is not plausible
• NieR will no longer have the help of Grimoire Weiss and his Sealed Verses during this combat, but she will be fairly easy to land chain melee attacks on. 
• Kainé will only perform a series of melee attacks herself, and often is stunned by NieR's repeated attacks.
